Recently, I had the privilege of visiting one of my trusted essential oil producers here in Indonesia, witnessing firsthand the passion and dedication that goes into every drop. From the way the plants are cultivated to the careful distillation process, it reinforced something I’ve always known—quality starts at the source.
This week was truly magical. I finally had the chance to meet the incredible people behind Tülu Wellness essential oils and carrier oils. Ethical sourcing is at the heart of what we do, and it’s so important to collaborate with individuals who genuinely care about their communities.
Why Knowing Where Your Essential Oils Come From Matters
Ethical sourcing should be at the core of the essential oil industry, yet it’s something that often goes unnoticed. Transparency matters—not just for quality, but for the people and communities behind every bottle. At Tülu Wellness, we work closely with our partners to ensure fair pay, equity, and respect for the land and those who cultivate it.

The Process Behind Every Drop
The process behind each bottle is immense. For example, Tutuk, one of the skilled distillers, spends 12-14 hours carefully overseeing the distillation process. To produce just 1 kilo of pure lime essential oil, 100-125 kilos of fresh lime are required. And the work doesn’t stop there—Alis, another key partner, ensures every batch meets the highest standards through rigorous purity testing, guaranteeing that what reaches you is truly unadulterated and of the highest quality.
Every drop of essential oil carries a story—the dedication of farmers, the skill of distillers, the commitment to sustainability. Knowing where your oils come from means honouring this process and supporting ethical practices that protect both people and the planet.
A Commitment to Sustainability
Alis is not only an expert in essential oil production but also a passionate advocate for supporting farmers and distillers. As part of an NGO in Indonesia, she focuses on uplifting underprivileged communities and ensuring fair wages for those who work tirelessly to produce these beautiful oils.
She also shared insights about the organic certification process in Indonesia. Unlike in other parts of the world, the soil here must remain untouched for three years before it can be officially certified as organic. This process is long, expensive, and difficult, making certification challenging for many small-scale farmers. However, they are actively working toward this goal, ensuring that their oils can be recognized as organic in other countries.
In the meantime, all purity testing is meticulously conducted, so we can be confident that every drop of oil is 100% pure and of the highest quality.
